Frequently Asked Questions

At competitions, aerialists have the exciting opportunity to showcase their skills by performing routines on stage in front of a panel of experienced judges. These judges evaluate each performance, typically scoring based on technique, artistry, and costume.

After the competition, students return to the studio to hear the judges’ constructive feedback, which serves as a valuable learning tool to help them refine their technique and grow as aerialists.

For us, the heart of competition is about having fun, building confidence, and gaining the skills needed to become stronger, more expressive aerialists over time.

For aerialists seeking an extra challenge, participating in additional performances and classes is essential. In our competition companies, aerialists work together toward a shared goal, creating a strong sense of teamwork and commitment.

Because attendance is highly encouraged—and sometimes mandatory—students benefit from consistent, focused training, which leads to faster progress and stronger skills. Being part of a close-knit team also fosters friendships and a supportive environment, both inside and outside the studio, through regular team bonding activities.

Company members have the exciting opportunity to take center stage as the leads in our end-of-season Spring Show, showcasing their hard work and growth.

Register for the auditions happening on June 7th.

During Choreography Week, aerialists dive into a deeply immersive and creative experience, collaborating closely with their coaches to select the perfect music and develop a captivating theme for their routines—specifically, one solo and one duet.

This hands-on week is dedicated to the art of storytelling through aerial dance, encouraging each aerialist to discover and express their unique artistic voice by creating original choreography.

Over four focused and dynamic days, aerialists will balance rigorous practice with fun, teamwork, and creative exploration, refining their movements and sequences to perfection.

The week culminates in a special parent preview, where families can celebrate the hard work and creativity poured into these routines.

It’s essential that aerialists come prepared to take initiative, showing independence and a strong creative mindset, as these pieces will become a core part of their performance repertoire—rehearsed weekly during company class in preparation for the competition season.

Would you like to be our Team Spirit Coordinator?

Team Spirit Coordinator

Role Overview:

  • Coordinate parent-led gifts or cards for teachers, choreographers, and teammates for special occasions

  • Liaise with studio leadership to ensure all activities align with studio values, schedules, and guidelines

Ideal Qualities:

  • Friendly, organized, and dependable

  • A heart for building community and encouraging others

  • Enjoys planning and bringing people together

Other Considerations

Aerialists will compete in 2-3 routines. Choreography will be set during Choreography Week, August

The Aerial Company will participate in 2–3 regional competitions throughout the season. Nationals are optional for students who qualify.
Each event typically takes place over a weekend and may span two days. A detailed performance schedule will be provided approximately one week before each competition.

All aerialists are expected to remain for all KSDA routines and attend the awards ceremony to support their team and represent our studio with unity and professionalism.

At KSDA, the Aerial Company Team upholds the highest standard of excellence at KSDA. We believe in the importance of discipline and aim to cultivate a strong work ethic among our aerialists. This is reflected in our dress code, which includes wearing black leggings, a black leotard, and neatly styling hair in a bun or ponytail.

Student Teacher Assistant Program

KSDA encourages all Company aerialists ages 14 and up to apply for a Student Teacher Assistant position. Assisting in weekly aerial classes is a valuable opportunity to:

  • Reinforce technique and terminology

  • Develop leadership and communication skills

  • Gain hands-on experience in teaching

  • Build a strong reference for future resumes and college applications

After completing one full year of assisting, high school students will begin receiving minimum wage credit per hour worked, applied directly to their studio account.

Students ages 10 and up are also welcome to apply to assist in preschool and kindergarten-level aerial and acro classes, helping guide our youngest aerialists with care and encouragement.

We will be offering performing opportunities throughout the year at Fall & Spring Festivals, ChristmasVille and our Annual Show. These are great ways to get out there and share our love for aerial and Jesus with the community. Aerial Company members will play the lead roles for our Year-End Spring Show. Auditions for certain roles will take place in the Fall & rehearsals will happen during a combined class through show weekend.

At KSDA, we believe that building strong relationships off the stage is just as important as growing skills on it. Throughout the season, we’ll host fun social events and team bonding activities to create a supportive, Christ-centered community among our aerialists.

Each student will be matched with a Team Sister—a fellow aerialist who will encourage, support, and cheer them on throughout the year. Sisters will exchange small gifts or notes during special occasions like holidays, competitions, and birthdays, helping to build meaningful connections and team unity.

To help coordinate these exciting activities, we’re looking for a volunteer to serve as our Team Spirit Coordinator! This parent-led role includes organizing team outings, holiday celebrations, small gift exchanges, and fostering a joyful, inclusive atmosphere. If you love bringing people together and spreading positivity, we’d love to have your help!

Cost & Tuition

A cost summary is a crucial component when planning for events such as extracurricular activities, where expenses can widely vary depending on several factors. Understandably, the total cost will differ for every family, influenced by variables such as the total amount of class time accumulated and siblings participating, among others. It’s our top priority to minimize these costs where possible, and we trust that this estimated cost summary will serve as a useful tool in your financial planning for the upcoming season.
